3D Printed Senior Home Meals – Sweden
For seniors who have difficulty chewing and swallowing, eating is tough work. Innovators in Sweden are trying to tackle this issue, and bring back the joy of eating to our elders. The idea is a few years old, but still considered a relatively new venture, as Sweden serves 3D printed home meals in senior homes. In order to encourage seniors to eat more, 3D printers take purified foods such as broccoli and chicken, thickened with egg and starch, and re-shapes them into drumsticks and florets. The consistency is like panna-cotta (cooked cream), and it is thickened to look like the original thing.
Toilet-Monitoring Health Tools – USA
Toilabs of the United States has invented another way to ease the workload of the caregiver and to accurately paint a picture of the health of the senior with their new TrueLoo toilet seat.
It’s a smart toilet seat that can monitor urine and feces and is able to detect changes that may spell health issues. The information collected from urine and bowel movements is then sent to a designated care team for further investigation and analysis.
Magnetic Muscle-Building Machine – Singapore
Using magnetic fields to improve muscle strength, scientists at the University of Singapore created a magnetic muscle-building machine called MRegen. It offers therapeutic benefits for the elderly, those with mobility issues and anyone who can’t exercise. In human trials, MRegen improves muscle strength by 30-40% in healthy adults, with a 50% improvement in muscle metabolism. Metabolism is responsible for good muscle health and regeneration.
